Sarasota, FL — Doctors Hospital of Sarasota is celebrating World COPD Day and The Great American Smoke Out on Wednesday, November 19th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Doctors Hospital Lido Café. This free event will help to raise awareness of the disease and guide more people to consider being tested with a NASCAR sponsored Drive 4 COPD screening event. We will have COPD Awareness ribbons, Slot Car Races, and an opportunity to learn more about the Smoking Cessation programs available.
Doctors Hospital is Sarasota’s only organization that has been awarded the Advanced Certification in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease by The Joint Commission, which recognizes organizations that make exceptional efforts to create better outcomes for COPD patients. The certification also signifies that we provide quality services to the community to meet the specific needs of COPD patients.
More than 11 million people are known to have COPD and up to 24 million may be unaware that they have the disease. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., causing serious long-term disability and early death. Unfortunately at this time, there is no cure for COPD.
The event is open to the community and we welcome all who would like to learn more about prevention, diagnosis and treatment for COPD. For additional information, please call (941) 342-1010.
