It has been a great year for Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, where our team has earned national recognition for outstanding quality – not only in clinical outcomes and the care we provide our patients, but also for creating one of the highest ranking hospital workplace environments in the nation for the third year in a row!
More than 56,000 patients were cared for in our hospital last year, by an outstanding team of over 400 physicians and 650 nurses, health care professionals and support staff. About half of these patients were seen in our emergency department, where operational efficiencies combined with clinical excellence, like earning Chest Pain Center Accreditation by the Society for Chest Pain Centers and Advanced Primary Stroke Center certification by the Joint Commission, resulted in our highest volumes and shortest wait times ever.
Doctors Hospital has been designated as a Blue Distinction® Center for Knee and Hip Replacement and a Blue Distinction® Center for Spine Surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida for meeting clinically validated quality standards and delivering better overall outcomes in patient care. We also have been named as one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s 40 Hospitals with Great Orthopedic and Spine Programs for providing superior outcomes and having a strong program reputation. In September, Doctors Hospital was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care by The Joint Commission. Doctors Hospital is one of only 405 hospitals earning the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance and is the only hospital to earn this distinction in the Sarasota/Manatee area.
One of our proudest achievements was being named one of the “Top 100 Best Places to Work” by Modern Healthcare, a leading industry publication through their annual survey, for the third year in a row. This is an exceptional honor and testament to the commitment of our management team and our staff to creating a high quality healthcare environment where professional growth and development and a commitment to service excellence are unsurpassed. Our many successes occurred in spite of the challenges that face our hospital, our community and the nation with regard to healthcare funding and access. In 2010, Doctors Hospital provided more than $4 million in uncompensated healthcare. With an estimated economic impact to the community exceeding $61 million, we must continue to search for a fair and equitable solution to ensure the ongoing viability and success of our local hospitals.
